Racing prodigy Jay Hanson is still on his L-plates.
The 17-year-old Victorian admitted it was odd to be driving solo on the track but to need a minder off them.
"I think I'm the youngest driver in the field ... it's awesome to be out here racing at a young age," Hanson said.
And the Ashley Seward Motorsport team member plans to be doing a lot more than just participating in this weekend's Race Tasmania spectacle at Symmons Plains.
"I can't wait for Symmons on Australia Day weekend, it's going to be an awesome event," he said.
Hanson started his motorsport career in motocross, however, he moved to go-karting after sustaining one too many injuries.
Elsewhere in sport:
After racing in Formula Ford in 2019, Hanson moved to touring car racing last year for Seward's team.
"I met Ash at the end of that year at Formula Ford and we did an evaluation day at Winton Raceway," he said.
"From there, we've built a great relationship and it's going to be great racing for them."
Hanson will be hitting Symmons in a Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR, he said the touring car heat was going to be "absolutely awesome - there's a lot of hype about them and they have some really good drivers in them".
"I'm really looking forward it ... it's really great to be out there ... I can't wait for it."
I've never been to Symmons and never been in the wet before so I'm ticking a few boxes at the moment.

After his final hit-out before this weekend's races, Hanson said he had a great time getting to grips with the Symmons track.
"I've never been to Symmons and never been in the wet before so I'm ticking a few boxes at the moment," he said.
"The track's absolutely awesome - it's completely different to what I expected. I did a little bit on the simulator before I came here but it's been absolutely awesome."
