Clarence (5-194) came out firing in their batting, with opener Emma Thompson (47) making her presence known.
But it would be the return of Vakarewa that heralded the Raiders' (7-195) first one-day win of the season by three wickets.
The Hurricanes all-rounder established her role as a solid fielder early on in the innings, catching out Hollie Armitage.

And just as it Thompson started to look unstoppable, a Vakarewa bowl had her chipping into the hands of Manix-Geeves, finishing with one wicket for nine runs in seven overs.
Raiders coach Darren Simmonds said Vakarewa had been keen to come back to the side for a while after missing the first part of the season with an injury.
"For our players to play with someone of her calibre is tremendous," he said.
"The leadership she gives to the side and the way she goes about the game with a smile is really important and she's a really good bowler, fielder and batter which is great."
On the other side of the crease, Vakarewa's dominance continued as she scored 53 runs in the middle order.

Her partnership with Meg Radford (33) would be one of two vital pairings, with opener Sasha Moloney (26) and Manix-Geeves (34) getting a hot start at the top.
"We spoke about how it was really important to build partnerships in this game," Simmonds said.
"In batting second, one thing we wanted to get was two 50-plus partnerships ... we were able to tick that off."
