Or more specifically, the little penguin.
Developed by the Cradle Coast Authority in partnership with the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment, the toolkit takes a citizen science-based approach to help community organisations and land managers monitor Tasmania's little penguin numbers and manage threats to their colonies.
Cradle Coast Authority CEO Darryl Connelly said this toolkit would help unite efforts to keep the region's furry creatures protected.
"(It) will be a fantastic resource for land managers and community groups who rally want to look after our little penguins," Mr Connelly said.
"This project is all about taking care of our region's unique wildlife."
"Not only is it the right thing to do, but healthy little penguin populations also contribute to our region's tourism appeal and our 'clean, green' image."
Primary Industries and Water Minister Guy Barnett said effective protection of these animals requires a coordinated effort.
"This is a monitoring toolkit to encourage the community to embrace the opportunity to monitor and care responsibly for little penguins," Mr Barnett said.
"It provides information and awareness about the lifestyle of little penguins, when they come, when they go, their breeding season and the areas in Tasmania where you can view them in a sensitive way."
The toolkit offers information on standardised survey methods as well as outlining methods to assess the habitat potential of an area.
It is endorsed by the Tasmanian Penguin Advisory Group and will be regularly reviewed by DPIPWE wildlife experts.
