ALL IS QUIET OVER STATUES
IN April last year the City of Launceston council started to undertake a risk assessment of the metal tiger statues in Brisbane Street Mall (The Examiner, January 6). Ten months have lapsed and all is quiet on the Northern front.

That's around 300 days for an accident to happen, not that City of Launceston worry, their public risk insurance will cover the medical cost, but not the person damaged, or the worry of that person's family members. I expect they will blame COVID-19 as it is an easy justification for doing sod all.

HEALTHCARE FUNDING
WHEN will we get our priorities right?
Sixty-four million dollars plus for a sports stadium, $12 million-plus for a race track that doesn't come up to standard, and now another million found for sporting club grants. A relative of mine spends the last hours of their life in a storeroom at the Launceston General Hospital.
This government had the opportunity to help alleviate this disgusting situation some years ago, but a "survey" determined that there was not the need for a standalone palliative care unit in Launceston.
Shame, shame, shame.
Brian Walker, South Launceston.
SUPER DYING UNDER LIBERALS
AUSTRALIA'S world-renowned superannuation system continues to be eroded by the Morrison government. It was recently revealed a billion dollars has been wrongly withdrawn from retirement accounts under the dodgy early access to the superannuation scheme. The time has now come for a rigorous independent inquiry.
Taxpayers have the right to know how much they'll be up to support those who now won't have enough in their accounts to retire on independently. Only an independent inquiry can answer these important questions and the government should initiate one immediately. The Liberals cannot be allowed to shirk accountability for their billion-dollar mistake. All Australian workers need to know how a billion dollars of their retirement savings was incorrectly siphoned off by Scott Morrison. If this continues to happen we will all be out of pocket.
Helen Polley, Tasmanian Labor senator.
WASTE PROCESSING CENTRE
THANKFULLY, common sense has been realised with the Resource Management and Planning Tribunal overturning the decision made by the City of Launceston council to reject plans to build a waste processing centre on the Humes/Holcim site at Invermay.
The site at 19-25 Churchill Park Drive was previously utilised as an industrial site for many years that manufactured concrete products where noise and dust from the machinery emanated from the site.
It was found that the development complied with the planning scheme.
The question that I have is why did our City of Launceston council reject this proposal in September last year?
Bob Salt, Launceston.
WHY MORE BIKE TRACKS?
WHY pander to a few bike riders when you can attract thousands of rail enthusiasts, families with children and the disabled.
Don't we have enough bike tracks already?
