The Hobart Hurricanes opener top-scored with 54 from 47 in the nine-wicket loss at Optus Stadium, just his second fifty in 10 innings [and first since the Hurricanes' second match] to take his tournament total to 195 runs at 19.50, with a strike-rate of 121.11.

"I don't feel like I was out of form and I felt like I was always hitting the ball well in the nets and when I got out to the game I didn't really have any luck to start with and I was finding different ways to get out,'' the 30-year-old said.

"Hopefully I have turned it around and keep going in the last four games.

"[I just kept] trying to back myself [during his run-scoring drought] with nothing too different and just tried to hit balls and tried to keep my mindset right in knowing I can do it and have the ability to do it and it was just around the corner hopefully.

"Hopefully I can just keep taking that into the next couple of games and hopefully be a bit more free flowing and help put a better total on the board."

While making a strong contribution with the bat was pleasing for Short, he admitted it was bittersweet as his side crashed to its third loss in a row.

Despite what looks a downward spiral after such a strong start to the tournament for the team, Short said the players weren't losing faith just yet.

"I just think we haven't put a complete batting innings together or a complete bowling innings, it has always been half of one and half of another and we haven't put a full game together,'' he said.

"By no means do I think we are out of it, but we just haven't stuck to our plans or have not backed ourselves in our plans to do what we were doing when we were winning and that is just getting back to that and we are reiterating to ourselves that what we were doing before was working.

"We're not far away from it and the boys are still all up and about and enjoying their time, it is just about getting back to enjoying our cricket and backing ourselves."

Short conceded his dropped catch at the start of the second over, when he gave Liam Livingstone [who made 54 from 39 balls] a life first ball, had robbed the Hurricanes the chance of putting on early pressure, on top of losing early wickets and being on the back foot against the likes of Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorff.

Livingstone and Jason Roy [74 not out from 52] put on 123 for the first wicket as the Scorchers chased down the total of 140 with 22 balls.

The Hurricanes, who have dropped to fifth on the table, next face the high-flying Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval on Monday night.

But they will be without their second highest run-scorer for BBL10 with South African Colin Ingram's stint in the purple ending on Tuesday.

He scored a run-a-ball 18 against the Scorchers to finish with 258 runs at 25.80 with a strike-rate of 127.09.
