The 24-year-old, who was given a last-minute wildcard to the event, held a 4-1 advantage on opponent Tallon Griekspoor before the Dutchman came back to win 7-6 6-3.
Griekspoor, who is ranked 155 in the world compared to Bourchier's 323, also fought back from 4-1 down in the first-set tiebreak to derail the Tasmanian's momentum as he aimed for his first win at Grand Slam qualifying level.

The loss marks the fifth time Bourchier has been defeated in the first round of Australian Open qualifying, having competed in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2020 before this year's event, which is being held in Doha due to the ongoing pandemic.
The Australian men to proceed in day two were former top-20 player Bernard Tomic, Dane Sweeny, Andrew Harris, Tristan Schoolkate, John-Patrick Smith and Max Purcell.
