Lynden Prince and Frank Compton have been appointed joint head coaches as the Birch Avenue club hopes to convert its Northern Championship success into the Women's Super League.

Both were players and coaches at Windsor Park where Prince masterminded back-to-back Northern Championship titles for the men in 2018 and women in 2019.

Compton, who also coached and played at Launceston City after arriving from England in 2015, said the club has high hopes for the step up.

"It is going to be a challenge but I think we have a talented group and are looking good," he said.

"I think the key will be whether we have to put a team into the Northern Championship as well."

Football Tasmania is yet to finalise the make-up of the 2021 WSL but reigning champions Olympia and existing members Clarence, Kingborough, South Hobart and Ulverstone are all understood to be returning with a question mark over wooden spooners University.

Meanwhile Devonport, Taroona and Beachside - along with United - have expressed an interest in joining.

"It might take a bit of time. As we know from Riverside in the NPL, you've got to build the foundations first but from our launch on Monday there were positive signs and we think we can hit the ground running."

With Prince seeking to complete his C licence and Compton his B, the pair were excited to team up at statewide level.

"I had a bit of a gap in coaching last year and was looking for an opportunity," Compton said.

"The club asked if we were interested and together we thought we could cover it and it's a great opportunity. With the Women's World Cup coming up in 2023 it was a no-brainer."

A training session and meet-and-greet barbecue was held on Monday and the club reported a healthy response.

Pre-season for the senior women's teams will begin on January 11 and 13 at 6pm.

At the club's annual meeting, long-serving president Tony Pearce announced he would be stepping down after almost a decade.

Pearce held many roles at the club and was a driving force behind the completion of the improved clubrooms in 2015.

Anthony Coulson will take over as president. He spent the 2020 season as junior vice-president during which United grew the largest playing base in the state.

A new-look club committee welcomed eight new members.
