Rain, hail and thunderstorms lashed city businesses and left many closing their doors from floods or leaks about 4pm.
Both the Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery's Inveresk site sustained water leakage.
IN OTHER NEWS:
City of Launceston chief executive Michael Stretton said the leakages were the result of the hail storm.
"Fortunately there was no significant damage to either facility, and both facilities remain open to the public," he said.
"We temporarily closed LA Fit [at the Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre] while we undertook mopping up works in the gym.
"We also temporarily closed off the Phenomena Factory and Auditorium at QVMAG while we cleaned up in those spaces."
Mr Stretton said the areas are expected to reopen over the next few days.
Private businesses also sustained damage, including The Importer, located in Broadland Drive, Invermay.
The gutter through the centre of the store overflowed, causing water to leak from the ceiling and onto carpet tiles.
Company director Charles Beaumont said they were lucky they had carpet tiles, which could be pulled up individually and dried.
The affected area covered about 60-square-metres.
He said he was hesitant to close the store and was thankful staff acted quickly to resolve the issue and moved items out of the way of the affected area.
"Today is traditionally one of the biggest trading days before Christmas," Mr Beaumont said.
He said the loss for the store would be minimal thanks to insurance and the damaged items would be marked down if they were salvageable.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast showers for the next few days with a chance of a possible thunderstorm Sunday.
