Businesses around Launceston are going head to head, decking out their windows with extravagant displays of trees, snow, baubles and lights for the city's Christmas window competition.

The competition, run by Cityprom, encourages businesses to compete against each other for prizes with their festive displays. One voter will also win $250 worth of vouchers to spend in the city.
Cityprom interim executive officer Amanda McEvoy said over 50 businesses have taken part and there have been thousands of votes from the public.
"The community response has been fantastic and has added to the festive vibe in the city," she said.

The judging panel will consist of Nightly News Seven Tasmania's Kim Millar and City of Launceston's deputy Mayor Danny Gibson. They will decide the winner of the Judge's Choice category.
Owner of Embellish Natalie Brown said businesses had gone to an amazing effort with their window displays.
The competition is part of the Love Launnie Sights and Sounds program.
"We encourage the community to visit the city to view the Christmas windows, enjoy some live entertainment and support local this festive season," Ms McEvoy said.
