Celebrations for the Jewish holiday Chanukah, from December 10-18, took place in the Brisbane Street Mall on Monday night with a Menorah lighting.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Rabbi Yochanan Gordon said it was the first time real fire was used, as for the previous nine years electric lighting was used.
"Our focus this year is overcoming obstacles, because this year especially has been difficult and there has been many obstacles.
"Chanukah is about a small group who had to overcome a major obstacle and we want to use that power in our own lives to overcome."
In addition to the lighting, there were speeches, children's entertainment, donuts and a barbecue.
