The City of Launceston council is installing a new flood gate barrier system to improve the pedestrian access by widening the Lindsay Street flood gate to provide the dedicated access.
The footings for the new system are being installed, with further works to take place over summer, which require part of the flood gate to be removed.

However, mitigation plans are in place for the installation of a temporary flood barrier should a flood risk arise before it's completed in the first quarter of next year.
Mayor Albert van Zetten said the project was about improving both vehicle and pedestrian access into the park from Lindsay St.
"We've been blown away by the enthusiasm Launceston families have demonstrated for Riverbend Park, and we're thrilled that it's proven so popular," he said.
"It will improve sightlines for vehicles entering and exiting the car park, and the dedicated pedestrian access means pedestrians will no longer need to navigate traffic at the main Lindsay St entrance.
"Vehicle access through the main entrance will remain open during the works, and we ask motorists to obey any temporary traffic signage which may be in place."
Currently, the only dedicated pedestrian access to Riverbend Park from Lindsay St is down near the Goderich Street traffic lights. Unless patrons walk over the levee itself.
