Steve Martin, also a former federal Senator, is now the chairman of the Mersey Community Hospital Support Group.
The group was recently involved in a campaign to reopen the hospital's 24 hour emergency department.
On Saturday, he wrote to Sarah Courtney outlining what he said were community concerns about a recent advertisement for an emergency department special at the hospital.
The advertisement was posted on the website for JPS Medical Recruitment, which claims to "specialise in the placement of medical professionals... across Australia and New Zealand."
The post advertised a locum opportunity for an emergency department specialist for multiple dates throughout December.
The position pays $2000 per day.
However, it was the description of Latrobe which appeared to most irk Mr Martin.
"The advert goes on to describe the location and population (2,843) of Latrobe referring to the 2006 census," Mr Martin wrote.
"This description has been seemingly copied and pasted from [Latrobe's] Wikipedia page.
"Understandably, community members are appalled by the advert, are questioning the so-called effort of the government to supposedly attract medical specialists to the Mersey.
"Respectfully, the community in this instance have every right to be appalled.
"In all honesty, it would be hard to imagine ED specialists tripping over one another to line up for the position."
Mr Martin went on to detail more recent data available from federal government sources which showed the hospital caters to a much larger catchment area, and a "better" description of the hospital from the state government's own Department of Health website.
"If this advert is the normal standard, then it is extremely poor, shows a total lack of information provided/expected by government, does not promote community confidence and is totally unacceptable.
"Minister, could you please advise?" his letter finished.
Ms Courtney said the government was not involved in the development of the advertisement.
"Neither the Government nor the THS were involved in the development of the ads, but will be reaching out to the organisation to suggest updates that help reflect the full hospital capability and broader Latrobe community.
"The THS is actively recruiting to these new permanent positions including developing a campaign with Brand Tasmania to promote the North-West Coast as a vibrant place to live and work as a healthcare professional.
"Locum availability to cover ordinary leave arrangements has also improved since borders have opened."
