Therefore, it would not be Christmas without a reading of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
The story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his encounters with the ghost of Marley, and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, will be brought to life at the Earl Arts Centre this December.
Local actor Michael Edgar will take on the role of Dickens and share his take on the author and novel, reading excerpts from A Christmas Carol to an audience.
Edgar has had a long-standing interest in the works of Dickens and previously took on the role of Dickens in 2019.
The actor has also worked with many Tasmanian companies during his career.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Theatre North programs manager Stuart Loone said Dickens and his tales would be well looked after in the hands of one of Launceston's finest and most experienced actors.
"The story is well-known but to hear it being delivered by someone of that caliber, it's going to be lovely," he said.
The programs manager said there would be a great Christmas vibe to the performance.
"A Christmas Carol is certainly a beautiful way to round out what has been quite the year.
"It's a real seasonal treat and a joyous way to shake off the year that was 2020."
Charles Dickens Reads A Christmas Carol will run for 95 minutes including interval.
"You can take a break from the shopping, sit in an air-conditioned theatre, and get back into the Christmas flurry after the show," he said.
"This is an opportunity for people to come and have a spell and it sounds like a cliché to say, but to also think about the true meaning of Christmas."
The Hotel Grand Chancellor will also be offering a two-course pre show dinner at 6pm for patrons.
The show will have four performances: December 18 at 7pm, December 19 and 1pm and 7pm, and December 20 at 1pm. Tickets are available to purchase through https://theatrenorth.com.au/.
