LAURA Singline and Arnie Donnellan had been together for six years before he popped the question on a holiday in Melbourne.

The couple were friends in high school and then started dating, the rest, as they say, is history.

Arnie proposed outside the casino in Melbourne after a stressful trip involving two cancelled flights and a two-hour drive to a different airport.

He wasn't about to let that get in the way of asking Laura to marry him even though he thought he might have to do it in airport security after all the delays.

After a year and a half engagement, the couple were married at Woolmers Estate in Longford, Tasmania.

The reception held a special meaning for Laura as the venue had the same name as her grandmother Marjorie who had recently passed away.

"It just felt like she was a part of the wedding" Laura said.

The reception was set in a rose garden and so Laura wanted to continue that theme inside.

It was rustic with timber and concrete accents contrasted with greenery and roses.

Although feeling nervous on the day, everything ran smoothly and Laura was walked down the aisle by her father, a particularly special moment for them both as he is unwell.

A highlight of the reception for Laura were the speeches.

They had a lot of people speak, and Laura said "that is what makes a wedding".

The first dance was to "Say you won't let go" by James Arthur, a song that the couple felt summed up their first year together.

When considering advice for future brides, Laura said the planning and preparation is key.

"Try to get as much done as possible months before your wedding. Double check dates on signage and don't stress too much on the day. It goes by too quickly for that!"
