People gathered to see what the new shop had to offer which included clothing, furniture, bric-a-brac, home-wares and collectables.
Chief executive officer Stephen Brown said he was overwhelmed by the response from the customers and volunteers.
"We are really gratified to see that the people appreciate the shop already," he said.
Social enterprise general manager, Peter Freak, echoed Mr Brown's sentiments.
"It's overwhelming. It's just so pleasing that we have been so warmly welcomed."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Earlier in the year, City Mission suffered a volunteer shortage as a result of the pandemic. Now, volunteer numbers are on the rise again.
"We have seen them rise," Mr Brown said.
"We are finding people are just volunteering from the general community which is great to see."
However, Mr Freak said there is room for more volunteers and it is a great way for people to acquire skills or use their skill set.
"We've had a good number of inquiries to volunteer here but we still need more," he said.
"It's a great opportunity to become part of a family."
The new shop is located at 12-16 Sorell Street, George Town.
All proceeds from items sold go directly to services in and around the George Town area. For more information visit citymission.org.au.
