Former Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman has been named as Australia's next High Commissioner to Singapore.

The announcement comes just two weeks after he stepped down from his role as chair of the Australian Business Growth Fund, a position he held for six months.
Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne made the announcement on Sunday.
"Australia's deep and longstanding ties with Singapore are underpinned by a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership covering defence, trade, science and innovation, the digital economy and people-to-people links," Senator Payne said.
"We have shared interests in the strategic stability and economic prosperity of our region, and work together as like-minded partners to foster these interests."
She detailed Mr Hodgman's experience in holding a wide range of cabinet positions during his time in Tasmanian Parliament.
Mr Hodgman resigned as Tasmanian premier in January, after having served in the job for six years.
