Four state and one world record were established on the opening day.
Jacob Templeton, formerly of Devonport but now based in Queensland, set a new S13 400-metre freestyle world record of 4:06.62.
With Hobart Aquatic Centre hosting the Tasmanian contingent of the event, South Esk's Sophie Hills clocked a new benchmark of 38.17 in the open S9 MC 50m butterfly and former clubmate Ella Chan, now with Hobart Aquatic, added a 14-year-old record of 28.03.
Hobart Aquatic's Matilda Smith set a 16-year-old 50m breaststroke record of 32.29 and Max Giuliani added the 17-year-old 100m (50.04) and 400m freestyle (3:57.89) records.
With families saved interstate travel and accommodation costs, Swimming Australia reported a 50 per cent increase in participation numbers.
