It certainly has been a different year for us all, and now that Christmas is only weeks away, I thought I'd show you some of my years favourites, and of course in my favourite medium, black and white.

The recent passing of a great Tasmanian and The Examiner newspaper photographer, Eddie Kerfoot, who was my chief photographer when I started in 1985, made me think about my style and the black and white images I love to take.
He was a great teacher of this art, he told me when he passed the first Nikon camera to me: "We paint with light, and tell stories of those who stand in front of the lens, see what you can capture."
I have said before that with black and white images, you get to see the subject and not be blinded by any colour to distract your eyes.
The above photo would be the favourite for the year, turning up to the cenotaph at 6am during the COVID-19 lockdown. This lone figure standing paying his respect to his fallen mates he left behind. The cold still air, the quietness and solitude made way for thoughts.
The paddocks near Devon Hills, just out of Perth, have many messages during the year, but this one, above, seemed so important.
Below are a few more of my favourites.
I hope you have enjoyed my style of news photography with hints of Eddie Kerfoot, and some others.
