Governments, law enforcement and well-meaning groups have been unsuccessfully addressing this deplorable rapidly increasing crime for decades. It will never and has never changed, and it will, while we go on treating these anti-social perpetrators so leniently.
It is pointless. You cannot reason with them, appeal to their sense of morality as they just do not care. We have the answers: make them fear the law. If they commit these horrendous, merciless crimes against women, incarcerate them appropriately.
Murder jailed for life, rape 15 years without parole, horrendous rape 25 years. Give them something to dwell on, a penalty that is a strong deterrent. The male criminal physical dominance of women must cease. If we do not act now we will be have the same discussions, seminars a decade from now, on the same subject. Lamenting what can we do. Wake up treat them without compassion like they truly deserve.

Changing thoughts on climate
THERE are problems with the thesis that carbon dioxide (CO2), especially anthropogenic CO2, is causing dangerous global warming - climate change - as espoused by many and recently in letters by M. Fyfe (The Examiner, November 21) and Richard Pickup (The Examiner November 23).
The period 1910 to 1940 showed global temperatures rising along with atmospheric CO2, but from 1940 to 1970 global temperatures dropped significantly whilst CO2 levels continued to increase. However, from 1970 global temperatures went back to warming whilst CO2 levels continued to increase. Over the past 550 million years ice age conditions occurred with widely different CO2 levels. Our present CO2 levels are around 410ppm but, for example, in the ice age 430 million years ago CO2 levels were around 4500ppm.
Life on Earth would not exist without the Sun nor without water vapour in our atmosphere which produces cloud cover essential to protect life from the Sun's heat. Changes in the Sun's sunspot and magnetic activity reflecting changes in solar radiation may, in fact, be the major determinants of changes in the Earth's temperature during the 21st century.
Finally, a letter can only say limited amounts, but there is an excellent book on the subject of climate science written by Australian scientist, Dr Howard Brady, titled Mirrors and Mazes. It is available on-line to purchase or via the Tasmanian Library system. It has been described as a book written for intelligent laymen who like to think for themselves.

Thou shalt not kill
THE commandment thou shalt not kill, means that the deliberate murder of an innocent person is gravely contrary to the dignity to the human being.
This commandment of God is well known and accepted by most true Christian traditions.
It is difficult to comprehend how Ian Wood as a Christian, is able to massage the word of God to suit the agenda of his religion, when it is obvious to everyone else, that assisting another human to die, no matter the reason, is pure and simple murder.
Mr Wood knows that murder is not always committed with malice of forethought, but can result from violence such as drunken brawls and a host of other reasons.
Read Jesus' sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:21. Cherry picking the Old Testament, might give the impression that Mr Wood's knowledge of Gods law in the Bible is edifying. However, it is clear that some Bible study would be of benefit to him.
To bring about another human being's death intentionally, cannot be described as compassionate. It is gravely disordered to demand that the law, which is there to protect us all, be modified to accommodate those who shout loudest, disregarding the views of the majority and the law of God.
The definition of murder from the Oxford English Dictionary is: the unlawful premeditated killing of a human being by another.
Mary T. Bates, Exeter.
