The message to "support local" is spreading ahead of the traditional Christmas shopping rush, with the festive spirit taking over Deloraine's Great Western Tiers Visitor Centre.

According to manager Vicki Pryer, staff have been busy "decking the halls" to prepare the shop for the silly season.
"This year we have a wonderful range of unique gifts that have been beautifully handcrafted in Tasmania," Ms Pryer said.

"We also have endearing Australian Christmas decorations."
Ms Pryer said she hoped Tasmanians would want to support local for their Christmas decorations and gifts this year, and encouraged locals and visitors to stop by.
"By choosing to purchase a unique gift, eat out or buy a coffee we can all help the local economy recover," Ms Pryer said.
The visitor centre, located at 98-100 Emu Bay Road, is offering free gift wrapping.
"It's just our way of helping to lift Christmas spirits after what has been a very challenging year," Ms Pryer said.
