A member of Launceston's losing 2012 TSL grand final side, Kolodjashnij was taken by Gold Coast with pick five of the 2013 national draft and made an instant impact with 59 games in his first three seasons.

He would play another 19 games with the Suns before being traded to Melbourne following a series of head knocks.

Kolodjashnij played two games with the Demons before concussion put an end to his 2019 campaign.

The 25-year-old announced his retirement on Wednesday after being unable to return to the field in 2020.

"It's disappointing it has turned out like this," he told Melbourne Media.

"I think coming into the AFL system you don't expect to be retiring at 25 years old, but I have been fortunate enough to be at two great clubs.

"I have met some lifelong friends, and grown so much individually as a person both on the field and off the field so I am pretty content with where it is all at now.

"I have had a bit of time to think about the transition and the retirement, unfortunately concussion got the better of me over the last four years or so.

"I wouldn't take anything back, I have learnt and grown so much and just looking forward to the next phase of my life."

Kolodjashnij becomes the eighth Tasmanian to exit the AFL this year with Tom Bellchambers also retiring and Robbie Fox, Jackson Thurlow, Mitch O'Neill, Fraser Turner, Hugh Dixon and Mitch Hibberd delisted.

Kolodjashnij's twin brother Jake, who played his 100^th game for Geelong earlier this season, is one of 21 Tasmanians remaining on AFL lists heading into next month's draft.

The two brothers are now running a business together with Kade nearing a return to full health.

"I am back in a pretty good place now - I am exercising and feeling good physically and mentally," he said.

"During my football career, Jake and I invested in a family business which specialises in natural insect repellent.

"It's going really well at the moment."
