Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff told a budget estimates committee a review of student support files had unearthed a notification of an incident with a Riverside High School student.

"I am advised that there was social worker follow-up with respect to that matter and Child Safety Services was advised," he said.

Department secretary Tim Bullard said contact with Mr Griffin had occurred in a private capacity.

"Where there is an allegation raised by a student regarding inappropriate behaviour of a sexual nature, we report to Child Safety for the management by Child Safety of that," he said.

Communities Tasmania secretary Mike Pervan contacted Mr Bullard on October 23 requesting the names of children at Brooks High School who may have raised concerns about Mr Griffin.

"The question we were asked by Communities Tasmania was related to Brooks and we didn't have a record about that student at Brooks," Mr Bullard said.

"But through other means there was a report we became aware of at Riverside and that's the matter we followed up."

Upon questioning from Labor's Michelle O'Byrne, Mr Rockliff said there had been no complaints about Mr Griffin from students at the Ashley Youth Detention Centre's school.

Mr Griffin was seconded to Ashley for just over five months from late 2017 in a nurse position.
