Wesley Vale trainer Glenn Stevenson had serious doubts that he could get War Correspondent fit for the race after the horse sustained a severe cut to his heel.

As a result, stable jockey Daniel Ganderton took another ride and Toker grabbed the opportunity to claim his biggest win since Powercharged in the 2017 Devonport Cup.

"I didn't think we would get there and I couldn't give Daniel a definite answer on whether he'd be running," Stevenson said.

"Daniel has done a lot of work with the horse so it's disappointing for him but Ismail stepped in and has ridden the horse a treat."

War Correspondent raced outside the leader Thunberg before charging clear to score by almost three lengths from Warrior Prince and Reite Den Blitz.

"I had to work him on Thursday morning after the races were called off on Wednesday night and, after the way he galloped, I was very confident he could win," Stevenson said.

"He had a 10-day break before his previous run so he was a bit soft for that race but I thought he'd bounce off a quick back-up - he's as tough as nails."

War Correspondent won't press on to the longer three-year-old feature races but instead go to the paddock and return later in the summer.

Two maiden winners who both picked up $20,000 Tasbred bonuses at Saturday's meeting could be headed for bigger riches over the summer carnival, according to their trainers.

Adam Trinder is aiming for the Strutt Stakes and Tasmanian Oaks with Vivilici and John Blacker has even higher aspirations for Swoop Dog.

Trinder was pleased to see Vivilici return to her good Tasmanian form after a failed trip to Victoria.

"She had really good two-year-old form before Joe (O'Neill) made a call to take her to Melbourne when we were shutdown," the trainer said.

"That didn't work out because her form over there was atrocious and she obviously didn't settle in.

"I think we've got her back now to where she was before.

"She's a half sister to (St Leger winner) Speed Force so she's bred to get a trip and I'm hopeful of running her in races like the Strutt and Oaks."

John Blacker is hoping the lightly-raced Swoop Dog can made a rapid rise through the grades.

"I think in time we'll see he's a fair horse - we've always had a good opinion of him," Blacker said after the Husson gelding scored at only his second start.

"He'll go to a 1600m Class 1 in three or four weeks then into the Guineas as a lead-up to the Tasmanian Derby.

"After that, we can have a look at the Launceston Cup because he'll stay all day."

Siggy Carr continued her good run as a trainer when Bandinelli led all the way in the inaugural Shane Yates Memorial.

Carr trained her first treble at the previous Mowbray meeting on November 11.

She also rode Bandinelli who got home by a head over Ethical Dilemma for his second win since coming from the Lloyd Kennewell stable in Victoria.

"He didn't settle as well as he did when he won in Hobart - he was pretty keen to get on with it," Carr said.

"But despite pulling hard he still gave me a great turn of foot when I asked for it.

"When we can get him to settle I think he has a lot of upside."
