The 29-year-old has been announced as a playing assistant coach alongside head coach Clint Brown for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Christensen has had a successful AFL career, playing 65 games between 2010-14 for his home-town club Geelong, including winning the 2011 Grand Final, and went on to play a further 68 games in five seasons with the Brisbane Lions.
Selected at pick 40 in the 2009 national draft, he was a rising star nominee in 2011 and went on to kick 114 goals in his decade-long AFL career.
In a post on Facebook, the Southern Bombers said: "Allen will bring a wealth of experience to Skybus Oval and is looking forward to working with the playing group, especially our younger players."
Coach of the Southern Bombers for 11 years, Winter led his side to three straight grand finals between 2017 and '19 before turning down a new contract offer.
