Mayor Albert van Zetten said plans to reopen the pool at its usual time were delayed after the pool sustained flood damage.
"We know all-too-well how popular the Cataract Gorge is, and we know how much visitors and residents love this beautiful area of our city," he said.
In other news:
"Our staff have been working as fast as possible to reopen the pool in time for summer.
"Thankfully, those works are almost complete and we expect to refill the pool and make it safe for people to use in just a couple of weeks."
Lifeguards will be on duty on weekends from 11am to 4pm from December 5 until December 18, when they will be on duty daily until February 2.
From February 3 until the last weekend in March, lifeguard supervision will be on weekends only.
Security officers will also be rostered full-time in the First Basin area from Friday, November 27 through until the end of March.
Mayor van Zetten said the aim of the security patrols was to create a safe, family atmosphere as well as to provide support to lifeguards in managing the First Basin Pool.
"This year, we will need to safely manage COVID density limits within the fenced pool area, and as such an extra guard will be employed to manage the numbers entering and existing the pool to ensure those limits are managed," he said.
