As has been the case for much of a disappointing NPL Tasmania league campaign, City held their own against Olympia but failed to take their chances before being picked off at the other end.
And just to complete the routine, a soft penalty put the opponents on their way to a 7-0 win.
City also found themselves up against a keeper at the top of his game with Elliot Hoysted repeatedly denying them seemingly certain goals.
His fifth-minute double save to deny Noah Mies and Sam Ridgard was nothing short of phenomenal and he went on to repeat the feats several times after the break.
Olympia were much more clinical but needed a spot of assistance in the shadows of half-time.
Lindsay Millington was harshly adjudged to have taken out the theatrical Ben Hamlett and Jake Vandermay's spot kick only just beat the luckless Lachy Clark.
Adding a second immediately after the break virtually killed off the contest before four goals in nine minutes inflicted the misery.
Callum Brown coolly converted the second and another penalty seemed to seal City's fate.
Clark had other ideas by exacting revenge on Vandermey but it was only a temporary reprieve as the Warriors suddenly went goal crazy.
Brown and his brother Declan both produced tidy finishes but Adam Gorrie and Austin Yost put in the strongest claims for goal of the game. Ben Curtis headed in a flattering seventh four minutes from time.
In what could be their final appearances in Tasmania, English imports Ridgard and Gerrard again ran the show for City but with little reward.
Even when the former won an injury-time penalty, the latter saw his spot-kick saved by the outstanding Hoysted to complete a miserable day for the visitors.
In next weekend's final at KGV, Olympia will play Glenorchy Knights who beat South Hobart 3-2 on Saturday.
