Despite the date change of the championships from March to October due to COVID, a sunny day made for a pleasant outing for competing riders.
Northern Tasmania Eventing Committee member Sally Cowan said the day went well.
"The weather was nice which was good, it hasn't been raining which is terrific," she said.
"We've had a terrific lineup of riders from one-star ... down to 50cm who are our beginner riders in their first time eventing."
However, the deluge from days prior meant the turf wasn't as good as it could be.
"It's a little soft in places, we've had to shift dressage arenas because it was too soft in our normal position," Cowan said.
"But our cross-country course is lovely."
In other news:
Riders competed in championships for various classes in eventing on behalf of clubs or schools, including combined training events.
Cowan said "COVID has wreaked havoc on all horse events ... this event had to be changed from late March to now."
"It may be the state championships, but it's the first event of the season ... horses have been in work for a couple of months but they haven't had a run anywhere," she said.
North-West Eventing Association's Georgia Van der drift took first overall in one-star with a score of 34.30.
She said considering her horse hadn't competed in 11 months it was good to be back in the field.
"I thought the ground held up pretty well considering the conditions," Van der drift said. She said Sunday's victory would be dedicated to her late father.
"It was really good to win it for him," Van der drift said.
