For George Town's Toby Nankervis and Clarence's Jack Riewoldt it was for the better but for Prospect's Jake Kolodjashnij, a premiership remained elusive.
Riewoldt had the most impact on the game out of the three, booting a crucial major to put the Tigers within nine points in the third as well as sealing the deal with a classy finish late in the last.

The much-loved Tiger is certainly known for his after the siren grand final antics following his 2017 Mr Brightside moment but this year's was a little more touching.
Taking one-year-old daughter Poppy up with him to receive his medal, Riewoldt introduced her to his medal giver, who met the three-time Coleman Medallist with "congratulations, you played really well".
The following day the 31-year-old took to Instagram to give his spin on the "Dreams" trend circling social media as he and teammate Tom Lynch were in a golf cart and drinking out of the premiership cup.
While Nankervis' performance wasn't as noticeable as his starring role in the preliminary final, the former North Launceston ruckman was still solid.
The 26-year-old, who is now an out of contract player, had eight disposals to go alongside his 25 hitouts - regularly beating opposing ruckman Rhys Stanley around the ground despite having less touches.
Both Tasmanian Tigers are three-time premiership players thanks to Richmond's period of dominance with Nankervis overcoming the disappointment of being named emergency in Sydney's 2016 grand final side.
At the defensive end of the ground in Geelong's blue and white, Kolodjashnij also collected eight touches - six of which were uncontested - and had a tough night rotating around the Tigers' forwards.
The 25-year-old's showing was rated a four out of 10 by Fox Sports, described as not "having a huge impact on proceedings".
Richmond's 31-point flag win was a classy end to a season that had it all and will be remembered for many a year to come due to the unusual circumstances and in particular, a grand final at the Gabba.
