The Launceston College sensation's time of 3:48.24 was just outside a qualifier for the world juniors but enough to win the under-20 race by 50 seconds.
Students from around the state are taking part in the event at the St Leonards Athletics Centre which concludes on Sunday.
Scotch Oakburn's Alexander Creak won the under-18 400m but, for the second weekend running, frustratingly just failed to break the magic 50-second barrier with a time of 50.06.
Ben Potter, of St Patrick's College, won the under-14 boys' 200m in 24.73 while Ulverstone's Chelsea Scolyer claimed the under-16 100m in 12.39 but couldn't better her own record from a year ago.
Scottsdale's Taia Lette jumped 1.60m to win the under-16 girls' high jump.
Isabella Davie, of St Patricks College, ran 61.32 to win the girls' under-16 400m and also claimed the triple jump with 10.24m.
The boys' 10 years 200m was won by Solomon Boyle, of Sacred Heart Launceston, in 30.85, the under-16 100m by Toby Kamphuis (Launceston Christian School) in 11.90, girls' under-18 100m by Trinity Bejah (also Launceston CS) in 13.15 and the under-20 100m by Aaron Rigby, of St Patricks College, in 11.44.
Jessica Bray, of Mt Carmel College, claimed a double with the under-16 girls' discus and under-18 javelin.
However, the star of day one was Masimba Chindewere, of Burnie's Stella Maris, who won a host of events including the boys 12 years 100m, 200m, 800m and long jump.
The Tasmanian All Schools usually act as the selection trials for the national event, however, the 2020 Australian championships were cancelled due to COVID19.
