Senator Jacqui Lambie's former chief of staff has told the Federal Court multiple requests for her to boost office security after it received death threats were ignored.

Rob Messenger and his wife Fern have taken court action against Senator Lambie, claiming she sacked them after they had made a number of workplace health and safety complaints.
Mr Messenger said the office received death threats after Senator Lambie promoted views that Sharia law should be banned in Australia.

He told the court the pair complained to her on another occasion about their volume of work, in particular a requirement to take calls from military veterans they were not adequately trained to deal with.
"As a result of that complaint, we were shouted at and abused," Mr Messenger said.
He said Senator Lambie's treatment of her other staff was also raised with her.
Mr Messenger said at one stage, they raised the bullying of a staff member who later resigned for mental health reasons.
"She often criticised staff ... without understanding the challenges they faced," he said.
Senator Lambie is yet to speak before the court.
Hearings resume on Wednesday.
