The catch netted Fiona $10,000 as part of the government's Tagged Trout Promotion aimed at encouraging people to visit regional areas and fish as Tasmania tries to recover from the COVIID-19 pandemic.

Anne Batterham, Fiona's mum, said the family had gone done to Lake Rowallan as part of a fishing event held by the Westbury Fishing Club.

She said the catch was exciting for the whole family.

"I wasn't in the boat - my husband, her dad, and her eight-year-old brother were in the boat and they were pretty excited. They were just excite," Ms Batterham said.

Ms Batterham said besides buying more fishing gear Fiona has no idea what to do with the money.

"It's Fiona's money but she doesn't know what $10,000 is. If you show her $50 then she is excited. She hasn't got any idea what she will do with the money," she said.

"She is just excited. She is flat out excited - the more she talks to people and tells everyone a different story about it the more excited she gets."

She said Fiona used pink and black Tassie Devil lure to reel in her trout.

Four tagged trout worth 10,000 each are still swimming around regional areas waiting to be caught.
