Challenge was established by the Australian Red Cross in 1983, providing an annual camping experience for children and young people living with cancer.

In 1995, Challenge became independent from the Red Cross and has since continued to develop to meet the changing needs of those affected by childhood cancers.

The Challenge mascot, Leuk the Duck, is most famously connected to former Australian professional golfer, Jarrod Lyle who died in 2018 at the age of 36, after succumbing to his third bout of cancer.

Having been diagnosed with cancer three times throughout his life, he knew first-hand the hardship that young people and their families face when battling this disease.

Throughout his adult lifetime, Lyle was committed to making a difference to children and families living with cancer. In his role as an ambassador for Challenge, he was passionate about supporting children who faced an experience similar to his own. He had a special ability to engage and connect with many people.

Through his own experience, Lyle was able to identify practical assistance and support that could make a difference.

In 2019 his wife, Briony, started the #DoingItForJarrod charity golf days. The aim was to keep the golfing community engaged with a cause that Lyle was so passionate about. All proceeds from these golf days go directly to Challenge.

Over the next few weeks several donation tins will be placed around the club. Any spare change will be greatly appreciated.

On the actual golf day there will be a number of fund-raising activities.

A raffle will be held and the club has also bought some Leuk the Duck merchandise which will be for sale.

It is also requested that people wear something yellow in support of this event.

The Launceston Golf Club A-grade Championship final was a wonderful advertisement for women's golf, with more than 40 spectators following the match between defending champion Maree Coulson and promising junior, Jorjah Bailey.

The winner was finally decided on the 37th hole, with Bailey sinking a birdie putt to claim the title.

Launceston Golf Club's men's championships will be decided this weekend and should provide a great spectacle.

The A-grade scratch is played over 36 holes.

A red hot Brett Churchill dispatched Greg Longmore with a birdie on the 13th hole of their semi-final to advance to the final against state captain Mitch Van Noord.

Van Noord had a good tussle with Dan Murray before prevailing on the 15th hole.

In the A-grade handicap, evergreen David Hamilton will play off against club president Tony Wilks while Brendan Bartlett will be looking to defend his title in the B-grade scratch event over 18 holes.

Bartlett will play Paul Brient.

B-grade handicap sees Brian Abey take on Matthew Adams.

In C-grade scratch, Jack Crawford takes on Blue Hussey while the C-grade handicap will be fought out by Ferg McEwan Foulds and club general manager Tony Powell.

George Town is taking post entries for the club's annual tournament stroke event on Sunday, October 25.
