Two custom-made copper pot stills, designed and created by Stillsmiths Tasmania at Westbury, are being installed at the site.

The stills will be integral to the creation of the whiskey and are set to be a centrepiece when the distillery opens to the public.

Stillsmiths Tasmania co-founder Tim Freeman described the installation as a "momentous occasion".

"This marks the new beginning of Callington Mill's whisky journey and the collaborative work carried out between the two businesses," he said.

"Not only have we hand-crafted the copper pot stills but we're also utilising the latest automation technology from Siemens.

"We are honoured to have been chosen to manufacture their state-of-the-art, fully automated distillery solution."

Distillery founder John Ibrahim said it was important to use as many Tasmanian made products in his business as possible, to distil "the true spirit of Tasmania".

"This represents a significant milestone in Tasmanian ingenuity and innovation," he said.

"I could have easily ordered a turnkey distillery from Scotland, Italy or Germany. But I wanted a Tasmanian designed and built world-class turnkey distillery.

"Our distillery will be on par with the rest of the world in safety, energy efficiency and waste management."

Callington Mill Distillery is set to open to the public in 2021.
