The Blues and Bombers rivalry, described as arguably the most traditional by Launceston senior coach Mitch Thorp, has seen the development league boys putting their own spin on it of late.

The cross-town rivals faced off in the second-string final in 2012, where North took home the chocolates by two points and since then, the premiership has been in Northern hands from 2018 - Launceston that year and North the next.

But this season has taken it to a whole new level with both sides at the top of the table and the top of their game.

FOOTY FINALS FEVER

The sides split victories throughout the season but Launceston's sole defeat of the season was at the hands of the Brenton Gale-coached North, which is something Jayden Hinds says irks them.

"Last time we played them, they beat us but we've learned a lot from it, we've built up from that experience and we are looking forward to it," he said

"Everyone knows that finals footy is a different game, it goes up a level."

The Blues have rocketed up the standings from a wooden-spoon finish last season to be minor premiers this year, thanks to the work of coach Kane Sanders.

His outfit has also had some pretty handy on-field contributors with 2019 seniors vice-captain Hamish Leedham playing all but one game and winning the Eade Medal for best and fairest.

"Obviously we are a young core but to have a few of the older blokes come back and show us younger boys what to do and what footy is about, it's setting us up for the next couple of years - so it's pretty ideal," Hinds said.

Across the river at North Launceston, it's a similar story in terms of youth and experience with the likes of Zach Burt, Lochlan Young and Nathan Pearce available for selection.

Standing alongside them will be 2019 premiership player Liam Davies, who made the move from Ulverstone last season and is feeling good about is side's prospects.

"It's a really good position for the club because obviously the seniors are in a really good position," he said.

"To have those blokes filter through, it gives everyone a chance to experience what it's like because the quality of football goes up obviously.

"The last couple of weeks of footy that we've played have been pretty good so we think we are pretty confident that we can perform at the best."

Those last couple of weeks have seen North produce an 64-point turnaround on the Tigers, losing to them by 51 points in round 12 before defeating them by 13 in last week's preliminary final.

The side has been missing captain Matthew Cossins since that first Tigers clash with an ankle injury but last year's premiership skipper is hoping to be ready for Saturday, named on the Bombers' team sheet.
