As a Blues side featuring Tim Bristow and Joe Groenewegen coasted home against Burnie, Boyd and back line stablemates Jack Tuthill and Miller Hodge were cheering from the sidelines.
"There's me and two other boys that have been here since we were seven years old, we played under-nines for three years and then came through the junior program," the 20-year-old said.
"I remember last time we were here watching the grand final it was 2011 and all us boys were up in the stand watching Timmy Bristow running around.
"Now we're playing with him and we're in a grand final, it's a dream come true really."

One of 11 Blues to play every game last season, the former Riverside High and Launceston College student has taken his game to a new level in 2020.
He finished equal seventh for marks in the home and away season and began grand final week by winning his first-ever selection in the TSL team of the year, slotting into a back pocket alongside North Launceston's Corey Nankervis and Glenorchy captain Josh Arnold.
"It was a little bit unexpected but I've been surrounded by a good bunch of backs," Boyd said.
"It could have been any of us really because we've all had a pretty good year and we're the team that's conceded the least points in the comp.
"I think from last year to this year I've improved a lot, mainly my maturity down there.
"Last year I was just trying to find my way in the team and this year I've actually found my spot in the team and not had to worry about trying to keep my spot each week - I've just got to try and play good footy and do what I need to do for the team."
Saturday will mark Boyd's first senior grand final, however he has plenty of big stage experience thanks to the 2017 and 2018 development league campaigns which saw the Blues finish runner-up and premier respectively.
He is into his third year as an apprentice builder, having begun the role one week after the 2018 flag.
Saturday's grand final starts at 2.30pm.
