Lead concentrate production at NQ Minerals' Hellyer tailings reprocessing business west of Cradle Mountain shot up by 35 per cent in the September quarter, the London-listed company said.

The 11,865 tonnes of lead concentrate produced during the quarter were up by 78 per cent compared with the September quarter of 2019.

Zinc concentrate production increased by 8 per cent compared with the June quarter and was 38 per cent ahead of the corresponding quarter last year.

"The efforts being exerted by our dedicated management and staff are producing very significant leaps forward with respect to the way Hellyer performs.

"Our Hellyer focus for this coming quarter is targeted towards furthering our plant output initiatives."

NQ said unaudited net revenue from Hellyer for the quarter totalled $19.1 million, with gross profit at $10.7 million.

It said it was finalising designs and operational procedures to further increase Hellyer production.

NQ is also working towards reopening the famed Beaconsfield Gold Mine, which it bought during the year.

It has hopes of developing new mining operations in the Hellyer area .

NQ in August announced it would start mineral exploration work at Hellyer.

Mr Lenigas said Hellyer had been one of the world's great high-grade polymetallic mines and there was significant potential to define new and extensive high-grade mineralisation.

"To move Hellyer back into underground mining is a logical and natural progression, especially considering we have the Hellyer plant fully operational," he said.

As well as its plans to resume underground mining at Beaconsfield, NQ recently said it had discovered excellent gold grades in about 80,000 tonnes of surveyed stockpiles from past mining in the Wetlands area east of the town.

Mr Lenigas said that was a "tremendous boost" to the Beaconsfield reopening plans.

"The removal of these stockpiles from the Wetlands area will also be the start of a process of rectifying a long-standing environmental issue in the town by cleaning up old mine waste placed in this area over the last 120-odd years and returning the area back to its natural pre-mining state," he said.
