Saturday night saw the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania recognise the achievements of the industry with their 2020 Awards for Excellence, held at the Peppers Silo Hotel in Launceston.

Sponsored by realestateview.com.au, the awards night was almost unable to go ahead due to COVID restrictions.
REIT president Mandy Welling said it was a testament to the resilience of the industry that the awards night went ahead.
"We were really excited with the fact that we could hold this event," she said.
"Earlier in the year we had envisaged we'd have to redesign the event to fit Zoom. We've held a cocktail-style event instead of our usual format, but we still have Zoom set up so people can attend when they can't physically make it here.
Ms Welling said 2020 has presented unique challenges for the industry.
"It's changed a lot of the way real estate agents perform their jobs. The guidelines changed for everyone, but particularly for those in the North-West after their outbreak, they were impacted the most.
"It's so important that we honour the year that has been."
The REIT Awards for Excellence are nominated for by those in the industry, and judged by an expert panel outside of the state.
The only exception to this is the Presidents Award, chosen by Ms Welling. This year's honouree was Robert Harrison of Harrison Humphreys.
"The Presidents Award is really focussed on what those individuals have done for the industry, not just themselves," Ms Welling said.
"Robert was an incredibly worthy recipient - he has always been extremely supportive of the industry, had been a volunteer at the Northern REIT branch for some time, and truly is one of those unique people.
"He has this ability to want and to need to help people. Robert's name is synonymous for being a person willing to help, that's something that comes up in conversation for me time and time again.
"He is somebody who will do anything for anyone, even when there isn't anything in it for him. I couldn't think of a more worthy recipient," Ms Welling said.
