The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting strong northwesterly winds will develop early on Friday morning, with wind gusts of up too 100km/h expected across most of the state.
A severe weather warning for damaging winds has been issued. Conditions are expected to ease slightly Friday evening, but will continue across Saturday morning.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The weekend is expected to be wet and humid, with 40 to 70mm of rain expected across the state, with lower levels across the northeast.
BOM meteorologist Alex Melitsis the strongest winds will be seen on Friday, and the winds predicted for Saturday won't be as damaging.
"We'll see quite a humid and muggy weekend with high humidities, temperatures in the low-to-mid-20's across the state and we'll see a rainband slowly cross on both Saturday and Sunday," Mr Melitsis said.
"There will be long periods of persistent moderate rain across much of the state on both of those days."
"With this extra rain we could see some river rises, so it's certainly worth monitoring our warnings to see and monitor flood warnings should they be needed."
Mr Melitsis said this is typical spring weather for Tasmania.
"This is really the time of year where we see four seasons in a week, and even in a day sometimes," he said.
