Stellar Resources Limited said Mineral Resources Tasmania was expected to take three to six months processing its 10 exploration licence applications, which were registered on September 9.

"An exploration program for the first two years has been outlined, with year one focusing on historical data capture and review, reprocessing of geophysical data, mapping, soil, rock chip and stream sampling programs to generate drill targets which will be drilled during year two," Melbourne-headquartered Stellar said in its annual report.

The licence applications. covering 2295 square kilometres, were titled:

Stellar said North-East Tasmanian gold deposits were an extension of the Melbourne Zone of the Western Lachlan Fold Belt in Victoria.

Stellar is best known in Tasmania for its long-running work towards starting tin mining at Zeehan.

That has yet to be achieved.

"After completing a scoping study on our flagship Heemskirk Tin Project in October 2019 which showed attractive economics for the project and that it is the second highest grade undeveloped tin project globally, we have unfortunately had to put further advancement of our tin projects in Tasmania on hold until markets improve sufficiently to raise further funding for our tin projects," Stellar said.

It said it expected gold exploration to be its short-term focus until tin prices improved enough to fund and "continue to advance" Heemskirk.

Stellar said tin prices had recovered significantly since a low in March.

"Since the downturn in tin demand early in 2020 due to coronavirus and associated Chinese smelter maintenance closures and production reductions, the Chinese economy is moving once again and promises of significant investment in network infrastructure are raising the demand for tin," it said.

Stellar said it maintained a positive short to medium-term outlook on tin demand and price improvement.
