The day was made all the more special for one pharmacist in particular: Ravenswood Pharmacy owner Dianne Brown who received a lifetime achievement award for her commitment to the profession.

Ms Brown has been a pharmacist for 45 years with 35 of those years being dedicated to the Ravenswood community.

She said there had been many changes during her tenure, including the shift to a more electronic-based pharmacy system.

"There has been a lot more administrative work but also a lot more things we can do as far as services are concerned ... vaccinations being one of the main ones," Ms Brown said.

Ms Brown's interest in science lead her to becoming a pharmacist, as well as the career's flexibility in work locations.

She said both her colleagues and customers were the best things about being a pharmacist.

Fellow pharmacist David Peachey said World Pharmacist Day was all about recognising pharmacists and their contribution to the health of communities.

"This year's been really busy terms of how we've had to deal with prescriptions coming in from doctors who are reverting to telehealth ... and issues getting various medications from around the world ... those are still ongoing problems," he said.

Mr Peachey said many pharmacists had gone above and beyond for customers, with some even calling doctors and other pharmacies on behalf of customers to source medications.
