The directors of George Town Norfolk decided to transfer ownership of the assets and holdings of the centre to the council, with the intent to ensure the museum remained a public asset, if the council wished.
The council will seek community consultation, to decide whether it should take on ownership of the centre or not.
Consultation for the acquisition will be available to the public for 28 days.
