Boasting two junior girls sides (an under 14s and an under 17s) in the NTJFA for the past four years and a female-friendly facility that can host four teams at a time, the pair believe they are a perfect match for the NTFAW competition.

Longford Junior Football Club president Jonny Dodd said the support behind the club's push so far has been fantastic.

"We've been pushing for a year or two now, purely because when the girls get to that age and come out of under 17s, we've currently got no system in place as to where they go," he said.

"The push is to get a senior girls team so that they can have a pathway forward to playing senior girls footy basically and not have to go to any other club and stick around at Longford."

The club's senior body have had meetings with the NTFA, forming a motivated sub-committee as proposals and licensing agreements for new sides are set to be lodged next week.

Under-17 girls coach Cory Bryant has seen his side blossom from "getting smashed every week" to winning four games so far this season - sitting fifth on the ladder.

"It's a really good effort for the girls to pick themselves up from last year," he said.

"There's three going on this year to go to seniors and they don't want to leave the club but if they've got to go, they've got to go.

"Hopefully if we get this side together, they will be able to stay on and support local.

"A couple of the girls won't play because they don't want to go to town and they love it out here."

He says the idea of a senior side has already given the outgoing girls something to strive for within their football career while Health Revival Longford personal trainer Crystal Blake is one of several recruits eager to get the team on the road.

"I'd be more than happy to be their strength and conditioning coach as I've already had a turn with the under-17s," Blake said.

"We have an all-new facility over there [next to the football ground], so we have a lot of stuff to play with."
