"Everything is different about it this year," he said.

The much-anticipated annual event has been staged for six years, and this year will be held on Saturday October 3.

"We can't hold a mass event; normally we have 300 people in a shed dancing to music and that's not possible this year, so we're doing something quite different.

"It's a themed event around kelp, pollen, rain and soil. The group of visitors will be split up to keep it in these smaller numbers, and going to four different areas of the farm to have special performances.

"It's quite different to what we've done before, but it's an exciting alternative.

"We decided rather than cancel, we would give ourselves licence to do something quite different this year."

Mr Roberts-Thomson said the tulip farm had put on some "more unusual" events over the years, but he believed they had a reputation for doing good quality events.

"Life's boring if you don't do these things.

"Some of the performances will be challenging for some, and for others they will be wonderful and beautiful.

"The community wants interesting things to do, and we want interesting things to do."

He said the young women from Big hART's Project O had been a big part of making it happen.

"Big hART has organised the artists, and helped organise the spaces.

"I have no doubts we will sell out.

"People have to book their tickets because if they just turn up on the day and hope to get in, they won't."
