Parks and Wildlife are hosting a community drop-in centre at Evandale on Saturday to view the designs.

The public shelter was commissioned by the state government, through the department after the Ben Lomond Alpine Hotel burned down in 2018.

The new shelter, designed by Launceston-based architects Cumulus Studio, will provide an entry point to the village through a heated internal area.

It will also include amenities such as public toilets.

PWS regional manager North Donna Stanley said the drop-in session would provide the community with an opportunity to see the plans first-hand.

"The shelter will not only provide a safe and comfortable space for skiers and those enjoying the snow to warm up but a facility for those enjoying short walks and taking in the stunning birdlife and wildflowers of the park in the warmer months," Ms Stanley said.

She said the session would enable the community to provide feedback on the new shelter.

Operators on Ben Lomond have recently called for more investment on the peak after they experienced a poor season due to weather and the coronavirus pandemic.

Along with the designs for the shelter, preliminary concept designs for a multipurpose facility will also be on display. The multipurpose facility hasn't been budgeted.

Ms Stanley said as part of its commitment to making Ben Lomond a year-round destination, PWS had commissioned Cumulus Studio to consider a future expansion to the new shelter to allow for commercial operators and other service providers.

"This longer-term plan for the site will ensure that if interested operators seek to invest, then we have enough space and a design that can accommodate their needs," she said.

PWS will undertake further design, resourcing consideration, and consultation work on the Stage 2 concept in the coming months.

The new public shelter is expected to be operational by winter 2021 and will replace the previous shelter.

The community is invited to view the plans on Saturday at the Evandale Memorial Hall between 3-6pm.
