Tasmania Police is investigating a deliberately lit fire at Newnham on Monday night, after it caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Emergency services attended a report of a structure fire on George Town Road just before midnight.
On arrival the fire was beginning to take hold of the garage, however nearby homes were spared thanks to concerted efforts from the Tasmania Fire Service to stop it spreading.

Damage to the garage and a vehicle inside was estimated to be between $10,000 and $15,000.
After the fire was extinguished a fire scene examiner attended the scene and determined it was deliberately lit.
No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police on 131 444 or alternatively to submit information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
