The Tasmanian and federal governments are together funding the construction of a sealed shoulder between the East Tamar Highway and the Batman Bridge.

The upgrade is touted as one that will improve freight movement across the North.
State Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson said the project was part of the $55 million Northern Roads Package, jointly funded by the state and Commonwealth governments, who are contributing $11 million and $44 million, respectively.
"The package will provide a more efficient route for freight vehicles travelling between the industrial precinct of Bell Bay and the Bass Highway," he said.
Work on the approximately $10 million project is set to begin in November.
