The upgrade is touted as one that will improve freight movement across the North.
State Infrastructure Minister Michael Ferguson said the project was part of the $55 million Northern Roads Package, jointly funded by the state and Commonwealth governments, who are contributing $11 million and $44 million, respectively.
"The package will provide a more efficient route for freight vehicles travelling between the industrial precinct of Bell Bay and the Bass Highway," he said.
Work on the approximately $10 million project is set to begin in November.
