Old Scotch's Lachie Bremner had the chance to fulfill the boyhood dream with a shot after the siren from the boundary line of the 50-metre arc but was unable to register a score, bringing the crowd to an eerie silence.
A six-goal Deloraine run in the first half looked to swing the game in the Kangaroos' favour as they led by 15 at the main break but the Thistles kept within arm's reach.
Splitting the third quarter, they started the last with three behinds which eventually proved to be their downfall as they controlled the offence.
Goals to David Morgan and Ricky Evans secured the lead for the first time since the second term before Ty Triffitt wrestled it back.
Connor Dixon looked to have the lead back in Scotch's hands with a mark and goal in the square but a controversial push in the back was paid and the Thistles could only register minor scores from there on in.
Dixon kicked two and Deloraine's Dom Shegog three as the only multiple goal-kickers on the park while Tom Pedley and Ryan Worn led the way for Old Scotch and Brayden Butler and Shegog for the Kangaroos.
ROCHERLEA v BRIDGENORTH
Rocherlea secured the minor premiership while putting a dark cloud above Bridgenorth's finals hopes with a 14.10 (94) to 11.11 (77) win over the Parrots.
The Cox-Goodyer brothers - Kaiden and Andrew - combined again for eight of the Tigers' haul but this time it was the former who did the major damage, booting six.
Josh Holton kicked three in a best-on performance as Jordan Cousens, Corey Anderson and returning ruckman Cooper Praciak led the way.
Declan Boyd and Brady Demeijer shone for the Parrots, who now need to defeat Scottsdale next week to have the chance to confirm their finals status.
