Removal of statues
Honestly I have never read such an absolute dribble, taking away the Thylacines statues because we may trip over them (The Examiner, September 1). Gosh we are supposedly adults and hopefully danger aware children, when are we going to take responsibility for our actions.

The analogy of this is to remove anything protruding from the ground that resembles any sought of danger.
With all that is going on around at this moment, and the things that are really endangering our well being, this does not rate consideration.
We should be using our god given talents of using our eyes, so we do not run into brick walls or step in front of trucks.
There is no doubt they are a draw card for photograph opportunities for tourists and even locals, a wonderful idea from the Launceston council.
It sometimes bewilders me why we give so much time to these projects with such minimal importance.
Whoever is pushing this let us grow up and take responsibility and use our eyes.

Rail Trail
MAYOR Greg Howard is at it again.
Why would the LCC concede ownership of the rail corridor to the Dorset Council when it would be far more beneficial to its residents for the rail section to run as far as Lebrina and turn it into a hub for the change from rail to bicycle.
It takes in the tunnel an immediate attraction for rail enthusiasts.
It would make it viable for small businesses selling everything from local produce to coffee or arts and crafts to be established thereby boosting the economy of the village.
Lets not forget, the border between Dorset and the Launceston councils is not until you are some 5 kilometres out of Lebrina on the road to Scottsdale.
Is this a blatant grab for a bigger council area?

JobKeeper
GREED is the motivation for some Australian companies to misuse the JobKeeper scheme. For example shoe retailer Accent Group received $13million in JobKeeper payments and yet has just given its CEO Daniel Agostinelli a whopping $1.2million bonus.
Shadow assistant treasurer Andrew Leigh in his speech to parliament names quite a number of other companies rorting the system. The bible says "the love of money is the root of all evil" and we can sure see how in this case. The good book also says if we are content with what we have, that in itself is great wealth and whoever coined the phrase "health is wealth" was also spot on.

Road Workers Safety
ANOTHER campaign to remind us to slow down to protect road workers.
Here is an idea, maybe road workers should only have their signs out when they are working or in the vicinity they are working not 6 kilometres up the road. I believe most people don't slow down now because a lot of the time there are no workers where the signs indicate, or they are that far from the signs people think no one is actually there working.
Currently road signs for workers are a bit like the boy who cried wolf and that's why a vast majority of drivers have switched off to them I believe.

Defensive Driving
In recent times there has been some discussion as to the value of defensive driving classes as a requirement for new license holders.
These skills should be a requirement for all new drivers.
We wouldn't throw our kids off a boat without adequate swimming skills.
Why are we letting them on the roads in charge of a car, without sufficient skills and understanding to control what is effectively a lethal weapon?
