Two City stalwarts who have benefitted from recent spells in the Northern Championship delivered the goals for Roger Hardwicke's side at KGV.
Noah Mies and Charlie Dyer delivered blistering finishes in a devastating seven-minute spell.
Without an NPL goal to his name this season, Mies produced a composed finish on 16 minutes after captain Sam Ridgard had stolen possession and set him up.
Dyer's goal was even more impressive, blasting home from the edge of the box from Mies' pass at the end of a delightful City move.
Rob Gerrard - two-goal hero in their previous round defeat of NPL champions Devonport - came closest to extending the lead as City provided a welcome distraction to their disappointing league campaign.
Three goals in seven minutes just before half-time was enough for Glenorchy to beat Taroona 3-0 at Kelvedon Park. An Alex Walter penalty was sandwiched between goals from Nick Naden and Cade Smith.
The remaining Lakoseljec Cup quarter-finals will be on Sunday when South Hobart host Kingborough (2pm) and Olympia Warriors play University (4.30pm).
Women's Cup
The North's two remaining teams in the Women's Statewide Cup were emphatically eliminated in the capital.
NORTHERN RANGERS were unable to make the semi-final for a second straight year as they went down 5-1 to Clarence at Wentworth Park.
Rachel Gill and Bronte Gadon had the hosts 2-0 up inside 20 minutes and Izzy Ferrier and Allie Berry killed off the contest by doubling the lead after the break. Moana Chamberlain pulled one back for Rangers before Ferrier's second completed the scoring.
RIVERSIDE suffered even heavier punishment, going down 8-0 to Kingborough at Lightwood Park.
Olympic could not handle Laura Davis who scored five with Amy Ollington, Holly Bonertz-Benn and an own goal completing the rout while Ollington also missed a penalty.
Goals from Nikki Moutsatsos, Pichon Choi and Eliane Fader saw South Hobart beat University 3-1. Beachside host Olympia at Sandown Park at midday on Sunday.
Under-20s cup
RIVERSIDE'S young guns stormed into the under-20 cup semi-finals with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Devonport.
A vocal Windsor Park crowd cheered their side to a spirited second-half fightback against a Strikers side orchestrated by Charles Bidwell.
Olympic were unable to call on the cup-tied Jarrod Hill, Jasper King, Will Humphrey and Liam Gilmore but still had enough fire-power to progress.
Fletcher Fulton, Matt Spanos and Aaron Kidmas have all been NPL regulars this season and were pivotal in the victory.
However, it was the visitors who took the lead midway through the half when Jordan Payne stabbed home a Kai Phillips free-kick.
Unlucky not to register through Fulton and Declan Zasadny, Olympic turned the game around soon after the break through sub Henry Cook and Spanos, with Fulton heavily involved in both goals.
"We want to be defending this cup next year," declared Olympic coach Chris Rademacher.
"I thought we outplayed them the whole game, even when we were 1-0 down. In the second half they all worked for each other. They're a quality team, full of talent. They train their boots off and it shows on the park.
"They set themselves high standards and want to go all the way in this."
In Saturday's other quarter-finals, Somerset Sharks beat South East United 3-2 after extra time at Cardigan Street and Glenorchy won 2-0 against Kingborough.
In the remaining tie, Olympia and South Hobart meet at Warrior Park at 2pm on Sunday.
