A draft strategy, put together by community input, features a variety of cultural and social fabrics that make the city what it is, including the iconic blockie route.
However the council will host a live online Q&A for further community consultation to allow people to ask about the draft and ensure nothing has been missed.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The council's creative arts and cultural services general manager Tracy Puklowski said the strategy was a timely acknowledgement that culture was vital to the success of a city, how it thinks about itself and how it presents itself to others.
"Culture isn't a nice to have, it's a necessary part of the glue that binds communities together," she said.
"Cities that make bold commitments to arts, culture and heritage often find that the positive impacts go far beyond the expected."
The draft cultural strategy lays out five proposed strategic aims for the council:
- to respect Aboriginal culture
- to realise the potential of our cultural places and assets
- to foster creative practices
- to reveal cultural stories
- to build and extend partnerships
The council's deputy mayor Danny Gibson, who will host the event alongside four panel members, said the strategy was a small step in a long journey.
"It's designed to better understand what cultural opportunities can make Launceston a more vibrant and creative community in the future," he said.
"More than that, [it] provides validity to what those of us immersed in the creative industries know - a city with a vibrant, valued and integrated arts and cultural scene is vital for a thriving, appealing and viable city.
"The subject of culture has been on my mind for years. I have worked in the arts for my entire adulthood. I have been advocating and working on the development of a strategy that gives it credibility."
